Having religion or faith isn't all that bad is it when it comes to public service?

I know the whines of "separation of church and state" which is childishly silly but over all, how bad can it be to have religion or faith as a public servant? I respect anyone running for office that has a place of worship they regularly attend. If fishing or golfing calm you or uplift you, go for it but for me, I enjoy a good Sunday service at church.
