Will having bad credit stop me from private renting?

I have always paid my rent an council tax on time and i can prove this my husband as been in work for years and i went back to work over a year ago after having my son. Please help if you have any info i'm so annoyed i could pay 99 quid for applying for the house and they say no and i loose my 99 quid
